She realizes that she must be true to her own desires and passions and returns to Thornfield Hall.

At Thornfield, Jane discovers that Rochester has been blinded and lost his hand in a fire. She finds out that he has also lost his wife Bertha, who set the fire. Jane and Rochester are reunited, and their love is rekindled. They decide to marry on the condition that they live simply and honestly, without deception or the restrictions of societal norms.
